Liaquat National Hospital (LNH), inaugurated on October 16, 1958, by Begum Naheed Iskander Mirza, was initially designed as a 500-bed healthcare facility, offering diagnostic radiology, laboratory services, four operating theaters, outpatient departments (OPDs), a state-of-the-art Emergency and Casualty Department, and a Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD). LNH began its journey with four OPD services and just 50 inpatient beds.
Over the past 66 years, LNH has grown into one of Pakistan’s premier healthcare institutions, now housing over 805 beds and offering a comprehensive range of services in more than 40 clinical disciplines. Annually, over 700,000 patients are treated through its OPDs, and LNH is recognized for its team of over 190 highly trained consultants, who are considered among the best in the country.
LNH is also a renowned center for medical education and research, offering more than 35 specialties for postgraduate training, with a thriving community of over 500 postgraduate trainee residents. In addition, LNH operates five undergraduate colleges, including the Liaquat National Medical College, the College of Physiotherapy, the College of Nursing, the College of Biomedical Technology, and the College of Laboratory and Diagnostic Sciences. Currently, over 1,500 students are pursuing their academic goals under LNH’s esteemed educational umbrella.
LNH boasts the largest critical care setup of any private healthcare institution in Pakistan, with more than 178 critical care beds. It is also one of the few private hospitals in the country with its own power generation facility, ensuring uninterrupted services. Beyond patient care, LNH is committed to the well-being of its more than 4,500 employees, offering extensive employee benefit programs, apprenticeship opportunities, and academic scholarships for their children.
Liaquat National Hospital is a unique, not-for-profit organization that stands apart by operating entirely on its own revenue, without relying on donations or zakat. Our mission is to continuously give back to the community through exceptional patient care. To ensure that healthcare is accessible to everyone, we’ve established five outreach centers across the city, providing much-needed support to those who may struggle to reach our main facility. These centers offer comprehensive primary healthcare services, making quality care more accessible for everyone in the community.
Through its commitment to healthcare, education, and employee welfare, Liaquat National Hospital continues to stand as a beacon of excellence in Pakistan’s healthcare landscape.
Healthcare in Pakistan stands at a critical juncture, facing the ongoing challenge of delivering quality care that is both accessible and affordable to the population. The evolving demands of healthcare systems are further complicated by rising costs, persistent resource constraints, and the increasing need for advanced technological integration. As we strive to bridge these gaps, the question remains: How can Pakistan balance the trifecta of cost, quality, and technology in healthcare?
This symposium brings together a diverse group of experts—policymakers, healthcare providers, technology innovators, and researchers—to address this vital question. Our goal is to facilitate meaningful conversations and foster collaborations that can help drive sustainable improvements in Pakistan’s healthcare landscape.
Through keynote addresses, expert panel discussions, and hands-on workshops, we aim to explore practical strategies for building an equitable, high-quality healthcare system for all Pakistanis. Together, we will identify actionable solutions and collaborate to build a future where every citizen has access to affordable, high-quality healthcare supported by cutting-edge technology.
We welcome all participants to this timely discussion and look forward to the groundbreaking insights and initiatives that will emerge from this symposium.
